SAE Project Info:

 

All students will be required to perform a SAE project during the semester.  SAE stands for Supervised Agriculture Experience. The project engages students to gain work experience and job skills to help explore agricultural careers. Credit can be received for up to 25 completed hours. Students may select from a wide array of categories.

We will discuss this project at length in class (including the first day of school) and throughout the semester.

 

This project counts as a TEST GRADE and is an important component of every Agricultural class.

 

Do not forget to communicate your plans with your teacher and your parents.

SAE Categories

 

Placement- volunteer or work

 

 

(Ex) animal shelter volunteer, vet clinic work, Carnivore Preservation Trust volunteer, Museum of Life and Science animal exhibit volunteer, Coalition to unchain dogs. Etc… 

 

Entrepreneurship- Operating own business

 

(EX) Make fliers and operate a pet sitting or dog walking service, community dog wash, breeding & showing livestock/small animals.

 

Improvement *minor component*- Making a habitat more aesthetically pleasing or healthier

 

(Ex) Building dog houses, building bluebird nest boxes, painting a horse fence, making cedar sleeping bags for outdoor dogs

 

Experimental- Performing the scientific method

 

(Ex) Test different feeds on weight gain in rats, Which antibacterial hand soaps are most effective against germs, Dog feeds trials on activity levels.

 

Exploratory *minor component*- Research and career exploration.

 

(Ex) Use the internet and interviews to explore several careers in animal science and create a poster detailing them, write a paper about an animal science career or issue, job shadow a wildlife biologist.

 

Analytical -Select a problem and research what others are doing to combat the problem.

 

(Ex) Air pollution/Odor from livestock farms, Pig Waste and Lagoons, pet overpopulation, breed bans.

 

Supplemental * minor component*- Take something learned in animal science class and practice it at home.

 

(Ex) Clipping bird’s flight feathers, toenail trimming of pet dog, castrating livestock.
